Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is rolling out major changes to the city's traffic management system in 2025. These changes include a new variable pricing structure for Salik tolls and public parking, aimed at reducing congestion and improving traffic flow across Dubai.
New Salik Toll Pricing (Starting January 2025)
From the end of January 2025, Dubai will introduce a Variable Toll Pricing system for its Salik tolls. Under the new system, toll charges will vary depending on the time of day:
- Weekday Peak Hours (6.00am - 10.00am and 4.00pm - 8.00pm): Dhs 6
- Off-Peak Hours (10.00am - 4.00pm and 8.00pm - 1.00am): Dhs 4
- Late Night Hours (1.00am - 6.00am): No toll charges
- Sundays (excluding public holidays and special events): Dhs 4 all day, with no toll charges between 1.00am and 6.00am
The goal is to ease traffic during peak hours while offering lower toll fees during off-peak times, making travel more affordable for drivers.
New Parking Fees (Starting March 2025)
Starting in March 2025, the RTA will introduce variable parking fees based on the time of day. The new parking rates will look like this:
- Peak Parking Hours (8.00am - 10.00am and 4.00pm - 8.00pm):
- Premium parking spaces: Dhs 6 per hour
- Other public paid parking areas: Dhs 4 per hour
- Off-Peak Parking Hours (10.00am - 4.00pm and 8.00pm - 10.00pm): Same as peak rates
- Overnight Parking (10.00pm - 8.00am): Free
- Sundays: Free all day
This policy aims to better manage parking demand and reduce congestion in high-traffic areas by encouraging drivers to park during less busy times.
Event Area Congestion Pricing (Starting February 2025)
In response to congestion during major events, the RTA will implement a Congestion Pricing policy. Beginning in February 2025, parking near event venues, starting with the Dubai World Trade Centre, will incur a charge of Dhs 25 per hour during large events.
Why This Matters
These new measures—variable Salik tolls, adjusted parking fees, and event-related congestion charges—are part of Dubai's ongoing efforts to improve traffic flow, reduce congestion, and make it easier for residents and visitors to move around. By offering lower prices during off-peak times and better managing parking availability, the RTA hopes to make the city’s roads and parking spaces more efficient for everyone.
