On Sunday, 28 July, the General Commercial Gaming Regulatory Authority (GCGRA), the federal body responsible for overseeing commercial gaming in the UAE, announced the awarding of a licence for the UAE’s first authorised lottery. The lottery licence was granted to The Game LLC, a commercial gaming operator with expertise in game development, lottery operations, and gaming content. Operating under the name ‘UAE Lottery,’ The Game LLC will introduce a variety of lottery games and other offerings tailored to different interests and financial preferences.
This marks a significant step in the GCGRA’s mission to create a well-regulated commercial gaming sector in the UAE, emphasising transparency, accountability, consumer protection, and responsible gaming practices.
The UAE lottery announcement follows a seven-month pause on prize draws like Emirates Draw and Mazhooz as the GCGRA established regulatory frameworks.
Jim Murren, the Chairman of the GCGRA, said, "The launch of the UAE Lottery is a pivotal event that not only marks the establishment of a disciplined world-class regulatory framework for lottery activities but also underscores our commitment to nurturing a secure and enriched commercial gaming environment in the UAE."
Established in September 2023, the GCGRA is dedicated to upholding global standards in consumer protection and regulatory oversight. Its regulatory framework aims to ensure the integrity, fairness, and transparency of commercial gaming, including lottery games, in the UAE. Additionally, the framework equips consumers with a range of tools to track and manage their gaming activities effectively.
Further details on the opening and specifics of The Game LLC’s lottery are awaited.
