A minor earthquake, occurring at a depth of 3 kilometres and a magnitude of 3.5, was recorded at 12.03am on 8 August in Al Sila’, a coastal town in Abu Dhabi’s Al Dhafra region, according to the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM).
The tremor, which occurred near the UAE’s border with Saudi Arabia, was lightly felt in the immediate vicinity. Authorities confirmed there was no significant impact or damage.
Al Sila’, located in the far western part of Abu Dhabi, is a small but strategically important community known for its proximity to the Gulf coastline and regional transport links.
Earlier this week, a minor earthquake was also recorded in the UAE's Khor Fakkan area, which was registered at a shallow depth of 2 kilometres. Such seismic activity is considered minor and generally poses little to no danger to residents. NCM continues to monitor seismic conditions across the UAE as part of its early warning and safety protocols.
