Royal Grammar School (RGS) Guildford Dubai had the pleasure of welcoming Baroness Floella Benjamin, OM DBE , a Trinidadian-British actress, singer, presenter, author, and politician. She is renowned for her roles as a presenter in children's programs like 'Play School', 'Play Away', 'Jamboree', and 'Fast Forward'. Her commitment to children's welfare and education is evident through her role as Chancellor of the University of Exeter and her advocacy work in the House of Lords. In recognition of her charitable activities, she was awarded a Damehood in 2020 and has received numerous other honours, including an appointment at the Coronation of King Charles. Baroness Floella Benjamin visited RGS Guildford Dubai, during her involvement in this year's Emirates Literature Festival.
Baroness Benjamin made a special visit to RGS Guildford Dubai, where she engaged students in a captivating reading session from her famous books, 'Keep Smiling' and 'Coming to England'. Pupils from year groups 3 and 4 got to interact directly with her, asking insightful questions and drawing inspiration from her impressive career.
During the visit, Karim Ahmed Siddiqi, a Year 5 student, presented his first published book, 'Mystery of Mansions', to Baroness Benjamin. Karim began writing the book in early 2023, and it was recently published.
