Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), in partnership with Emaar Properties, has announced a major expansion of the Burj Khalifa-Dubai Mall Metro Station, increasing its capacity from 7,250 to 12,320 passengers per hour, a 65% boost aimed at meeting the area’s rising commuter traffic.
RTA officials state that the move is a direct response to sustained and growing demand at the busy station, especially during public holidays or major events. The station, located between Business Bay and Dubai Financial Centre on Red Line, has seen passenger numbers increasing over the years, reaching an average of 58,000 daily passengers in 2024.
The project will expand the station’s total area from 6,700 to 8,500 square metres, allowing it to serve up to 220,000 passengers per day. It will include the enhancement of station entrances and pedestrian bridges, expanded concourse and platform areas, and the installation of additional escalators and lifts. To ease passenger movement, entry and exit gates will be separated, and more fare gates will be added. The expansion also includes an increase in commercial space to generate more revenue, and improved integration with other public transport options.
