His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has approved the Dubai Metro Blue Line project. This new 30km metro route is designed to strategically connect key areas in the emirate, featuring 14 stations. The initiative aligns with the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan.
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed ordered the prompt initiation of the project's implementation, ensuring compliance to the highest international standards and specifications to accommodate the demographic expansion in the region. The project is slated for completion in 2029, coinciding with the 20th anniversary of the Dubai Metro.
Things To Know About Dubai Metro Blue Line
The blue line will cover a total distance of 30km, comprising 15.5km underground and 14.5km above ground. Featuring 14 stations, including crucial interchange points such as the Creek Station on the Green Line, Centrepoint Station on the Red Line, and Dubai International City Station 1, along with the distinctive station at Dubai Creek Harbour, the Blue Line is poised to play a vital role in the continuous expansion of the city's transportation network.
The Blue Line will establish a direct link between Dubai International Airport and 9 prominent areas along its route, including Mirdif, Al Warqa, International City 1 and 2, Dubai Silicon Oasis, Academic City, Ras Al Khor Industrial Area, Dubai Creek Harbour, and Dubai Festival City. The expected travel time between these destinations is estimated to vary from 10 to 25 minutes.
By 2030 The Blue Line Will Serve Around 200,000 Passengers Daily
The Blue Line comprises nine stations above ground and five stations below ground. It is projected to cater to around 200,000 daily passengers by 2030, with an anticipated increase to 320,000 daily passengers by 2040. The line is designed to accommodate an estimated capacity of approximately 56,000 passengers per hour in both directions, with a service interval of about 1 and a half minutes.
Dubai Railway Network Set To Expand
Upon the Blue Line's completion, Dubai's overall railway network will expand from 101km to 131km. This comprises 120km for the Dubai Metro and 11km for the Dubai Tram. The count of metro and tram stations will rise from 64 to 78, consisting of 67 stations for the Dubai Metro and 11 for the Dubai Tram. Furthermore, the fleet will increase from 140 to 168 trains, with 157 designated for the Dubai Metro and 11 for the Dubai Tram.
Traffic Congestion To Be Reduced
The Blue Line is anticipated to reduce traffic congestion on the routes it serves by 20% and enhance the value of land and properties near its stations by up to 25%.
