His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has launched the '1 Billion Meals Endowment' campaign, which aims to provide meals to the less fortunate.
Launched under the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, with the help of local and international organisations, the meals will aid low-income families in fighting against hunger.
The aid will further provide support to individuals that have been affected by natural disasters and crises around the world, in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals for 2030 to eradicate hunger.
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed said, "As it has become a yearly Ramadan tradition, this year we launch the '1 Billion Meals Endowment' campaign with the aim of sustainably providing hundreds of millions of meals to people in need. 828 million people suffer from hunger around the world, this means one in 10 people. As humans and as Muslims, it is our duty to be there for those in need, especially during the month of Ramadan. Even a small but sustainable contribution makes a bigger difference than a one-time large contribution."
The campaign, launched in time for the Holy Month of Ramadan, is an expansion of the previous campaigns, which began in 2020 with the '10 Million Meals' campaign and provided 15.3 million meals to families in need.
In 2021, the '100 Million Meals' campaign was launched, with 220 million meals donated, followed by the '1 Billion Meals' initiative in 2022, which provided food to 50 countries around the world.
Individuals and businesses are encouraged to donate via the 1 Billion Meals website, SMS or through bank transfer.
