Hope Probe To Observe Deimos

WAM

The Hope Probe, the first Arab led planetary exploration station, is set to transition into a new orbit.

Led by The Emirates Mars Mission, the probe will fly within 150 kilometres to capture data from Deimos, the smaller moon of Mars.

Since its discovery in 1969, Phobos, the second moon on Mars, has been widely observed in comparison to Deimos.

Deimos orbits Mars on a larger scale and completes a revolution around the planet every 30 hours.

The first Deimos fly-by began towards the end of January and will continue throughout February.

Hessa Al Matroushi, Science Lead at The Emirates Mars Mission said, "The Deimos campaign aims to provide the international scientific community with previously unseen observations and data. The Hope Probe will capture high cadence images and data of the irregularly shaped, crater-heavy moon, during fly-bys at different times."
