The General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDFRA) has announced that in excess of 1,000 fake passports were seized across Dubai’s airports so far this year. The GDFRA uses some of the latest technologies to detect all kinds of methods of forged passports and subsequently preventing forgers from entering the UAE. In addition to false passports, the GDFRA has also identified fake residence visas and licenses from other countries around the world
Aqil Ahmed Al Najjar, consultant at the Document Examination Centre at GDRFA Dubai said, "Those who came to the country through transit to travel to other countries without carrying a visit visa for their destination or by giving forged identity and residence cards were sent back to the country where they came from. The centre receives forged documents of multiple nationalities daily, but most of them are easy to detect."
Though the levels and type of forged documents varies significantly, a total of 1,043 forged passports have been seized in 2018, due to the latest technologies used, a large database available and the ability of over 1,700 passport control officers, who themselves are specifically trained in what to look out for and can identify forged documents quickly.
