Abu Dhabi’s oldest heritage site Qasr Al Hosn reopens as a museum after the completion of its renovation and renewal works. His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces was present for the official opening on Wednesday 5 December.
The new site includes four connected areas, which are the Al Hosn Palace, the National Consultative Council, the Cultural Foundation, and the House of Artisans. As Qasr Al Hosn is a symbol of the city’s development from a fishing and pearling hub to the modern city that it is today, the ceremony portrayed the emotions through an interesting light show, which portrayed scenes about the country’s heritage and the story of how the people of the region moved from the desert to the coast, and how the Bani Yas tribe settled on Abu Dhabi Island and formed its first community.
His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed said, “The area showcases Abu Dhabi’s ancient history, as the fathers and grandfathers built the landmark with determination while pointing out that through their cohesion and solidarity, and due to their sacrifices, everyone is now living in a modern country that has a prestigious stature among nations.”
The new site aims to protect Emirati traditions with a number of interesting displays, artefacts, exhibitions, workshops and so on.
Qasr Al Hosn will be marked with a week-long celebration from 7-15 December. Free tours, events and musical performances will bring the site’s history to life and offer visitors a glimpse into the story of Abu Dhabi and its people.
