As a first in the Arab region, Dubai is set to introduce a skin bank. Skin banks contain healthy skin that has been surgically removed and frozen for future use. It is one of the most valuable resources for skin grafting - particularly used for burn victims with unsalvageable damage.
In an interview, Dr Younis Kazim, CEO of Dubai Healthcare Corporation (DHC) under the Dubai Health Authority (DHA), stated that the concept is being developed by Rashid Hospital’s plastic surgery department.
The clinic aims to be ready by mid 2019. The DHA will also be setting up a cardiology centre and cancer centre by 2020.
