To influence or not to influence, that is the question. During the rise of social media influencers, a fair few have given the practise a bad reputation. How the Dubai Consumer Protection Department feels about influencers is now no longer under question. They took to their Twitter page to urge residents not to be led by the ‘opinions’ of social media influencers - implying they are just there for the payout.
The caption for the video reads; "Dear Consumers: Do not restrict your choices to social media influencers' opinion on a product, service or a meal in a restaurant. Some of them are paid to advertise convincingly to you. Ask more before you make a purchase #smart_consumer #empowerd_consumer." [sic]
The video now has over 15,000 views.
