The first ever completely Emirati-made satellite, Khalifa Sat was launched this morning. The satellite took off into space from Tanegashima Space Centre in Japan. The historic event took place this morning, at 8.08am UAE-time onboard the H2-A rocket. The rocket was also holding Japan’s environment satellite, GoSat-2.

The purpose of Khalifa Sat is to capture images of the Earth from space. Images captured from the satellite’s cameras will be sent to Earth and released from the space centre when ready.
