On the 13 May, disaster struck in the Dubai Marina area as a residential building caught fire. The Zen Tower caught alight causing over 100 residents to flee their homes. The fire that left the building badly burnt is said to have begun in the kitchen of a downstairs floor business.
Though it is not confirmed as to which business, there are several located on the ground floor. Fire and rescue Chief Brigadier Rashid Khalifa Buflasa said that a flammable substance caught fire and it quickly spread to the rest of the tower.
