A mall-wide blackout at the Dubai Mall suspended operations and left visitors in the dark for over 90 minutes. All shops and restaurants were forced to shut down during the power outage. The incident hit the world's largest shopping centre at 7.13pm leaving only the mall's emergency exit lights on. Dubai Police immediately arrived at the scene as visitors and shoppers were asked to vacate the premises.
"Dubai Electricity and Water Authority's (Dewa) technicians successfully restored power to Dubai Mall tonight after a power outage that was caused by the transfer of high-voltage cables from Dubai Mall substation, based on a request from Emaar," in a statement by the utility service provider.
