There will be a two-year probation period for new driving licenses in the UAE starting 1st July 2017. The new probation period aims to teach new drivers to obey road rules and may cut future insurance premiums. Last year, drivers between 18 and 30 have caused half of road accidents in the country. Authorities will flag driver's history of bad driving or a medical condition during the probation period. Driving licenses will not be issued to patients with certain ailments that affect their driving ability after coordination with health authorities.
