Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched a Smart Assessment System for Cycling and E-Scooter Tracks and their assets, leveraging the latest smart technologies. This pioneering initiative integrates advanced cameras and sensors to enhance track safety, sustainability and efficiency while supporting Dubai’s Sustainable Mobility Vision 2030.
Mounted on an electric bicycle, the system provides real-time analysis of track conditions without disrupting users. It leverages artificial intelligence, sensors and high-resolution cameras to evaluate key safety indicators, including:
- Track Pavement Condition Index
- Track Asset Condition Index
- Ride Comfort Index
The system significantly improves maintenance efficiency, covering 120 kilometres of tracks in just four hours, compared to traditional methods that only assess 2.25 kilometres per day, showing a 98% increase in speed. It also enables full assessments of 557 kilometres of cycling tracks within a month, enhancing predictive maintenance, reducing operational costs and ensuring long-term sustainability.
