New Passport Rule Eases Visa Status Correction Process

The Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security (ICP) has updated the passport validity requirement for people trying to update their status. Passports now need to be valid for just one month instead of six months. This adjustment is part of a two-month grace period that began on 1 September. The aim is to assist individuals in correcting their status, either by leaving the country without a ban or securing a job and staying.

Major General Suhail Saeed Al Khaili, the Director General of ICP stated that the new one-month rule helps those with residency or visa issues, as well as foreign-born children in the country. They won’t have to renew their passports if they have less than six months remaining. This change simplifies the process, making it easier for people who may be otherwise facing delays when renewing passports through embassies.
