Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), in collaboration with Dubai Police General HQ, has announced an increase in speed limits on two major roads in Dubai. The changes on Al Amardi Street and Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Street will take effect on 30 September, 2024, enhancing road safety and traffic efficiency in Dubai.
New Speed Limit Details
-
Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street: The speed limit will be raised to 100km/h between Dubai Al Ain Road and the Academic City Roundabout. From the Academic City Roundabout to Al Khawaneej Street, the limit will be set at 90km/h.
-
Al Amardi Street: The speed limit will also be standardised to 90km/h between Al Khawaneej Street and Emirates Road.
These adjustments are part of a comprehensive strategy to improve traffic flow in Dubai, following an in-depth engineering study conducted by the RTA.
Recent Upgrades And Improvements
Recent developments on these streets include additional lanes and improved intersections, making them more suitable for higher speeds. Notably, Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street has seen significant upgrades, including the construction of an overpass at Dubai Al Ain Road. Ongoing enhancements are expected to be completed by 2030, which will facilitate the enforcement of the 100km/h speed limit along the entire stretch.
Al Amardi Street has also undergone significant expansion, with the addition of service roads and the conversion of the roundabout at Al Khawaneej Street into a signal-controlled intersection, further improving traffic conditions.
Preparing For The Changes
To implement these new speed limits, the RTA will update traffic signs and road markings on both Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street and Al Amardi Street. These updates will adhere to the highest safety standards, ensuring a smooth transition when the new limits take effect.
