In the first half of 2024, Dubai's taxi sector saw a 500,000 trip increase compared to the previous year, reaching a total of 55.7 million journeys. Passenger numbers also grew from 96.2 million to 96.9 million. The number of drivers increased from 26,000 to 30,000, and the total fleet expanded to 12,778 taxis, an increase of 644 vehicles from the previous year.
Adel Shakri, Director of Planning and Business Development at the Public Transport Agency of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), said, "The transportation industry has consistently grown over the last five years. This rise in the number of journeys, drivers and vehicles directly responds to the increasing demand for the service, ensuring that customers' needs are met."
The taxi sector is seeing impressive growth thanks to Hala Taxi's e-hail service. In the first half of 2024, e-bookings made up 40% of all taxi rides in Dubai, a 5% increase from last year. Additionally, 76% of Hala journeys had an average vehicle arrival time of under 3.5 minutes, up from 73% in the previous year.
These improvements highlight RTA’s commitment to enhancing digital services and customer satisfaction, contributing to Dubai's growth as a global investment and tourism hub.
