Hatta, situated about 1.5 hours from Dubai, is a popular weekend retreat offering a range of outdoor activities and natural attractions. Recently, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced the completion of dedicated and shared tracks for bicycles and e-scooters spanning 4.5km in Hatta. This initiative also involved the establishment of two rest areas along the new tracks, expanding the total track length in Hatta by 50% to 13.5km.
Additionally, RTA finalised a 2.2km pedestrian pathway adjacent to the new tracks. The project aims to enhance sustainable mobility solutions, integrate various modes of transportation, develop inclusive infrastructure, and provide diverse options for personalised mobility experiences across Dubai, including in Hatta.
The RTA also finished paving a parking area at Wadi Leem Lake, which can accommodate 135 vehicles. They also upgraded the existing gravel road that connects the parking lot to the main street with tiles that harmonise with Hatta's natural surroundings. Additionally, traffic signs and directional markers have been installed at entrances to Wadi Leem Lake and other key locations to guide the public regarding entry and exit points, enhancing road safety for all users in Hatta.
Hussain Al Banna, CEO of Traffic and Roads Agency at RTA, said, "RTA's strategy aims to implement a series of improvement projects and offer multiple options for an exceptional individual mobility experience, aligning with the growth and increasing popularity of Hatta as a destination among residents and tourists. The area features a unique geographical location, environmental and cultural diversity, and various recreational services that meet the needs of all community members."
What To Know About The New Cycling Tracks
The new cycling track starts behind the Hatta Community Centre, crosses the pedestrian bridge at Leem Lake, and connects with the existing track in Wadi Hatta Park. It continues to the Hatta Guest House area and merges with the existing track at Hatta Police Roundabout, extending up to Hatta Sports Club. From there, it branches out into shared tracks with local streets in the Almasiaf area near Al-Salmi.
This project aims to promote individual mobility and fitness, supporting Dubai's goals and reinforcing its status as a leading city for cyclists. The RTA is committed to enhancing soft mobility options and integrating various transportation methods in Hatta. It aims to link development projects and tourist sites using non-traditional modes like walking, cycling, and e-scooters, while also addressing first and last-mile connectivity needs.
Other Developments In Hatta
Recently, the RTA finished building the Hatta Souq Roundabout along the Dubai-Hatta Road, aiming to streamline access to the Souq and shorten travel distances by 60%. Additionally, a new U-turn was completed near Wadi Hub on the Dubai-Hatta Road to facilitate easier entry and exit at key tourist sites, enhancing overall traffic safety in Hatta. These initiatives are part of RTA's ongoing efforts to improve accessibility and convenience for residents and visitors alike in the Hatta region.
