Dubai Police Confiscate 640 Bicycles, E-Bikes And E-Scooters For Traffic Violations

Dubai Police

Dubai Police have seized 640 bicycles, e-bikes, and e-scooters from riders who broke traffic laws and regulations. This dangerous behaviour posed risks to the riders and others on the roads. The impoundments were part of a traffic campaign initiated by Dubai Police earlier this month. The campaign aims to raise awareness about the importance of cyclists and electric scooter riders following traffic laws and guidelines strictly.

His Excellency Major General Abdullah Ali Al Ghaithi, Assistant Commandant for Operations Affairs, indicated that these violations included biking on roads with speed limits over 60km per hour; not wearing mandated safety vests and helmets, reckless riding endangering both the rider and other roads users, riding against traffic flow, not dismounting while crossing pedestrian crossings, and lacking required technical specifications on bicycles.

His Excellency Major General Abdullah Ali Al Ghaithi emphasised the importance of cyclists and e-scooter riders following these safety measures, wearing a suitable helmet, particularly when cycling near highways, using a reflective jacket, and fitting bright white front and red rear light reflectors.

Moreover, His Excellency Major General Abdullah Ali Al Ghaithi encouraged community members to report any concerning or hazardous behaviours they witnessed through the 'Police Eye' service on the Dubai Police app or by contacting the 'We Are All Police' service at 901.

Here are the fines related to violations involving e-scooters and bicycles that you should know:

- Riding an e-bike or bicycle on a road with a speed limit of over 60km per hour incurs a Dhs 300 fine.
