Being a foster parent

38smiles a non-profit animal rescue group that was created in 2012. Since day one the founder and a group of likeminded people have been trying their very best to help the stray animals of Dubai.

38smiles motto is “Helping the strays of today become the pets of tomorrow”.

38smiles, like most of the rescue groups in UAE, does not have a shelter and relies on support from the public with fundraising, fostering and volunteering.

One of the ways to get involved is by becoming a foster parent. Foster homes are incredibly important, as they provide safe and loving temporary homes for rescued animals until they find forever homes. By offering your time, energy and home to an animal in need, you help rehabilitate, socialise and prepare the animal for adoption into a forever home.

38smiles do not believe in keeping animals in boarding where they are stuck in tiny cages and can only take a new rescue under their care if a foster home is available, so every new foster home is an opportunity for a stray animal to be rescued and given a chance to be someone’s pet.

With summer approaching there’s always an increase in pet abandonment, strays in poor condition and of course being the holiday season most foster families travel back home. 38smiles are left in a situation where they need temporary foster homes to fill in for the ones travelling and new foster homes in order to continue rescuing.

They are looking for unique individuals who can dedicate their time to nurturing and loving those who need it most. One of the most rewarding experiences for these carers is seeing a previously uncared for animal finding who they are and learning to trust and enjoy life.
This summer Snap, Sophie Rey, Asoka, Winston, Tillie, Kiki and Mr Weasley will need temporary foster homes.

Snap is a 9 month old Arabian Mau rescued from one of the stables in Dubai just before Pest Control were called in. He’s current foster is leaving the country for good and Snap needs a place to crash until a forever home is found.

Sophie Rey and Asoka are two sisters rescued from an abandoned villa as it was scheduled for demolition. They are extremely attached to one another and complete each other’s personalities. These two girls are looking for a foster home together.

Winston was a street fella found with a broken hip. Broken hips and broken tails are injuries seen quite often on the streets, unpleasant but fixable with surgery. Winston was lucky enough to be rescued, operated on and placed in a foster home. His foster mum is a teacher and will be going home during summer holidays so Winston will need a temporary summer holiday home himself.

Kiki and Mr Weasley are sort of ‘social media celebrities’, in fact it’s hard to believe they haven’t been adopted yet. Kiki is a princess who likes to give Mr Weasley tough time and Mr Weasley is just the sweetest, the softest and craziest ginger cat known to mankind.

Tillie is a queen and is used to being treated as one, unfortunately her foster mum is leaving for good and Tillie needs to find another soft bed to occupy and another big window to do her bird watching from.
