A dedicated beach area has opened along the Abu Dhabi Corniche, right near Gate 3, designed specially to offer safe, accessible and enjoyable experiences for the visually impaired.
This is not just a small section, it’s a 1,000 square metre beach with global accessibility standards, officially recognised as a Disability-Friendly Beach by the World Disability Union.
This initiative, developed by Abu Dhabi City Municipality in collaboration with the Zayed Higher Organisation for People of Determination, shows a strong push toward inclusivity and better public spaces for the visually impaired residents of the city.
The space features tactile paths to help with navigation, Braille signs, fenced pathways and sound cues for guidance, floating wheelchairs for easy water access and a supervised swimming area just for the visually impaired along with a licenced nurse on site and accessible restrooms, among other things.
While the beach remains open daily till midnight, swimming is only allowed between 6am and sunset. If you know someone who could benefit from it, this might be a perfect place to recommend.
