However, on this occasion I was there to experience their Hot Stone Massage, a healing technique that dates back to ancient times.
What’s involved?
The treatment commences with a Swedish massage before introducing the hot stones. The stones used are basalt, a black volcanic rock, rich in iron, that absorb and retain heat. They are heated in water and an electric heater until they are within a certain temperature range.
The heated stones are then placed on specific points along the spine and other areas of the body and the therapist also uses the stones to massage certain areas. Stones are also placed in the palm of the hands, and soles of the feet to improve the flow of energy throughout the body. The heat of the stones warm and relax the muscles, which in turn allows the therapist to apply deeper pressure, if required. As the stones cool, the therapist replaces them.
What are the results?
Hot stones are known to relax muscles and soft tissues, alleviate pain, improve circulation, help to rid the body of toxins, reduce stress, promote calmness, increase relaxation, improve circulation and calm the nervous system. I have to say, I felt completely rejuvenated after my treatment. Aches and pains had disappeared, I felt relaxed and calm and experienced a great sense of wellbeing. I will definitely be having this treatment again.
