Hair professional and stylist Nicolas Hallak shares tips for the humid weather.
New cut
Make sure you trim your hair every 6 to 8 weeks to avoid having split ends, as split ends can cause frizz.
Use smoothing conditioners and hair masks
These will coat the hair shaft and help prevent frizz. When washing off your conditioner, use cold water. This will make your hair shine and can help fight puffiness.
Don’t shampoo your hair every day
Shampoo every other day or every two days. Washing your hair too often will strip it from its natural oils and make it more prone to frizz.
Style in sections
Try hairstyles such as loose waves or braids that can be styled in sections. For example, twirl damp hair sections into curls and secure them with a bobby pin or clip. Loosen them when your hair is dry and you will have natural looking beach waves without frizz.
Avoid hairdryers
Air-dry your hair as much as possible because blow-dries remove all moisture from the hair, which can dry it out and create puffiness. If you use a hairdryer, do it on the cool setting.
Use sun protection
The sunlight can make your hair more susceptible to damage and breakage. Use a UV protectant spray before leaving the house to avoid damage.
