Burj Khalifa Lights Up Securing 1.2 Million Meals In One Week

WAM

The facade of the world's tallest building, the Burj Khalifa, has been lit up with 1.2 million lights securing a total of 1.2 million meals for individuals and families affected by coronavirus COVID-19.

The donation initiative was launched by the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI) in collaboration with Burj Khalifa for the ’10 million meals’ campaign to provide food support for low-income families and individuals throughout the Holy Month of Ramadan.

Each light on the iconic building could be purchased for Dhs 10 each, which is the equivalent to one meal.

Donations poured in from individuals and big corporates to support the initiative and in only one week all 1.2 million meals were secured.

A total of 110 nationalities contributed to the humanitarian initiative in a message of hope and solidarity to coronavirus COVID-19-hit communities across the world.

While the World’s Tallest Donation Box concluded after achieving its target, the ’10 million meals’ campaign will continue receiving donations and securing meals for coronavirus COVID-19-hit communities during Ramadan under the supervision of MBRGI and the Social Solidarity Fund against coronavirus COVID-19.

Financial donations are received through the campaign’s website www.10millionmeals.ae, SMS or bank transfer with details listed online. In-kind donations are made through the call centre 8004006.
