New UAE Initiative Supports Female Cancer Survivors Rejoining Careers

WAM

In a powerful step toward empowering female cancer survivors, Al Jalila Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Dubai Health, has launched an innovative return-to-work programme in partnership with The American Business Council in Dubai. Titled ‘Revive and Thrive’, the initiative is aimed at supporting women in the UAE who are ready to re-enter the workforce after completing cancer treatment.

The programme is already making a meaningful impact. Nine women from Al Jalila Foundation’s Majlis Al Amal, a first-of-its-kind cancer support centre in the region, have successfully been placed in returnship roles across a variety of industries. These roles offer paid, six-month placements to help participants regain their confidence, upskill, and re-establish their careers under the guidance of professional mentors.

Majlis Al Amal, which translates to 'Hope Lounge', provides a safe and supportive community space for women with cancer and their families.

The need for such a programme is urgent and well documented. According to international research, up to 53% of cancer survivors leave their jobs during or after treatment, often due to health concerns, emotional stress, or lack of workplace support. For many women, this disruption leads to financial challenges and long-term setbacks in their careers.

The programme fosters a workplace culture that recognises the resilience of survivors and the value they bring to the job market, while also marking an important milestone in supporting the recovery and reintegration into society of women battling and surviving cancer.
