The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced its plans to launch a smart time management system at exhibitions, conferences and malls to reduce the times commuters spend in long queues waiting for taxis.
The new system will allow the RTA to measure the number of passengers waiting in a long queue post an event, and with the help of real time data, can ensure the required number of taxis are sent to these locations.
Meanwhile, the new system will also provide passengers exact information on the number of taxis available and the expected waiting time.
RTA tested the new system during two events at the Dubai World Trade Centre and the Dubai Mall and both trials recorded a drop in waiting time. The idea was created to add convenience to people’s experience when attending any of the over 500 events that are held in Dubai every year.
Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the RTA’s Board of Executive Directors, said, “It was part of the agency’s aim to deliver services that exceed customer expectations and make them happier.”
Taxis in Dubai have transported more than 87.8 million passengers in the first half of this year.
