Dubai Police has unveiled a new sports initiative that aims to empower individuals with Down syndrome by integrating them into local, regional, and international taekwondo competitions. The programme, titled 'Down Syndrome Rehabilitation through Para Taekwondo', focusses on improving physical and mental capabilities, boosting self-esteem, and enabling participants to become more active members of the community.
By working in close partnership with the UAE Taekwondo Federation, the Emirates Down Syndrome Association, and the People of Determination Empowerment Council, the initiative transforms para taekwondo into a holistic tool for rehabilitation and personal development.
The programme reflects the UAE’s national vision to create equal opportunities for all, especially for People of Determination by enabling their participation in sports competitions. It is being launched in the Year of Community, reinforcing efforts to ensure inclusivity in every sector.

The initiative includes structured training phases, with plans to expand and welcome female athletes in the next academic year. According to trainers, the sessions improve motor skills, neurological coordination, and social confidence, creating pathways for broader participation in society.
As part of its long-term vision, Dubai Police aims to elevate this inclusive sports model and help participants reach new heights in both athletic and personal achievement.
