A UAE automaker is about to start the production of the first batch of high-performance sports vehicles that will be on sale in Dubai for about Dhs 1.6 million.
After spending the last 18 months perfecting the SandRacer 500 GT, which carries a starting price tag at $450,000 (Dhs 1.6 million), Zarooq Motors said on Tuesday that they are now ready to go into production.
The car can be driven not only around the race track, but within the city’s roads and across the sand dunes. Even before the work could start, sales of the supercar have already kicked off, with some eager buyers booking some orders. The first models to be produced will be delivered by the fourth quarter of the year.
“The first clients, both in the GCC and Europe, are mostly VIPs and car collectors. That’s why we also offer bespoke options and concierge services,” Laffite said.
The supercar was first unveiled at the Abu Dhabi Formula 1 Grand Prix in December 2015. The carmaker spent nearly two years of testing, mechanical and design work to perfect the vehicle.
“We are very excited to see our supercar perform on roads as on sand, following our initial vision,” said Burno Laffite, one of Zarooq Motors’ founders.
Mohammed Al Qadi, Zarooq Motors’ executive, said they manufacture high-performance vehicles that can work well anywhere, whether driving on the race track, around the city or the desert.
“Zarooq Motors makes supercars that are unique since you can take them on a weekend track day or for a luxurious commute in the city but also on any off-road terrain, even the toughest dunes of the Arabian desert where they were born,” Al Qadi said.
The supercar will feature top of the range fittings, including a digital dashboard, climate control, power windows. “The brutal performance (525hp, 660Nm from a tuned 6.2 litre V8 with only 1,200 kg) is as potent on the asphalt as off-road with two suspension height settings,” the company said in a statement.
