Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is set to build three new integrated truck rest areas in partnership with the private sector. The project will cover more than 210,000 square metres and will accommodate up to 490 trucks and heavy vehicles.
The new facilities are designed to improve driver safety, comfort, and overall working conditions. They will be located along key transport routes and inside major logistics hubs that see high levels of truck movement every day. The entry and exit points will follow international safety standards to ensure smooth and secure access.
The locations of the three sites were selected after detailed technical studies. Factors such as proximity to main roads, logistics cities, and busy transport corridors were considered to make sure the rest areas serve the highest number of trucks daily.
In addition, the new rest areas are expected to improve traffic flow and reduce random roadside parking by trucks. They will also support supply chain efficiency and sustainability while helping Dubai maintain its position as a global hub for trade and logistics.
Each of the three facilities will be developed as a full-service hub offering a wide range of services. These include accommodation, maintenance services, driver training centres, retail outlets, logistics warehouses, and recreational spaces, all designed to improve the daily experience of truck drivers.
Location Of The 3 New Rest Areas
The first and largest site will be located near Jebel Ali 3. It will cover 100,000 square metres and accommodate up to 250 trucks. This facility will include a heavy vehicle testing centre, a driver training centre focused on safety, a light vehicle maintenance centre, a periodic maintenance facility, retail outlets, logistics warehouses, accommodation, recreational lounges, electric vehicle charging points, and diesel refuelling stations.
The second facility will be built in Saih Shuaib, near the entrance to Dubai Industrial City. It will cover around 51,000 square metres and accommodate up to 120 trucks. It will include accommodation, a maintenance centre, retail outlets, logistics warehouses, recreational lounges, and electric vehicle charging points.
The third facility will be located in Madinat Hind 2 along Emirates Road, next to Al Tayy Racetrack. It will cover more than 59,000 square metres and will also accommodate around 120 trucks. This site will include a heavy vehicle testing centre, a driver training centre, a maintenance facility, retail outlets, logistics warehouses, accommodation, recreational lounges, and electric vehicle charging points.
The new project builds on earlier efforts by RTA in partnership with Abu Dhabi National Oil Company, which have already delivered 14 truck rest areas across six key locations in Dubai. These existing facilities are located along major roads, including Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, Emirates Road, Dubai–Hatta Road, Dubai–Al Ain Road, Jebel Ali–Lehbab Road, and Al Awir Road. Each of these rest areas can accommodate between 30 and 40 trucks.
