Dubai has witnessed heavy rain and thunderstorms on Thursday, 18 December and Friday, 19 December. As a result, major international airlines, including Emirates, have cancelled or delayed flights at Dubai International Airport (DXB) and Al Maktuom International Airport (DWC).
Dubai Airports has issued an advisory urging travellers to plan ahead as the unstable weather has led to flight cancellations, delays and congestion at one of the world’s busiest aviation hubs.
Travellers have been advised to allow extra time to reach DXB or consider using the Dubai Metro, while checking flight status directly with their airline before leaving for the airport.
In a statement, Dubai Airports said: “Some flights at DXB and DWC are cancelled or delayed due to adverse weather. Please check with your airline for the latest updates before heading to the airport. There is water accumulation on some roads. Please allow extra time for your journey. If possible, use the metro.”
Authorities at DXB and DWC, have advised all travellers to check with their airline directly before making a journey.
A check on DXB's flight status page showed a whole lot of cancellations and delays due to the rain. Airlines such as Emirates, flydubai, flynas and Royal Jordanian, several international carriers, including Turkish Airlines, Saudia, Kuwait Airways and Qatar Airways, were affected.
If you’re due to travel from DXB, then be sure to check the status of your flight before making your way there, as more than 90 flights have been delayed so far on Friday December 19.
