Abu Dhabi has taken a major step in its smart mobility strategy with the launch of the emirate’s first autonomous delivery vehicle pilot programme. Supervised by the Smart and Autonomous Systems Council and led by the Integrated Transport Centre (Abu Dhabi Mobility), the initiative was rolled out in collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Investment Office, technology developer K2, and EMX, the logistics arm of 7X or erstwhile Emirates Post Group.
The milestone includes the issuance of Abu Dhabi’s first license plate for a self-driving delivery vehicle. Developed by K2 subsidiary Autogo, the vehicles integrate advanced artificial intelligence and smart mobility technologies to navigate city streets and deliver orders without human drivers.
The pilot began in Masdar City, one of Abu Dhabi’s leading hubs for sustainable innovation, with plans to expand across wider urban areas in the coming months. The project aligns with Abu Dhabi’s transport strategy, which targets 25 percent of all trips to be made using smart transport solutions by 2040, building on earlier successes such as autonomous taxis.
Autonomous delivery vehicles support multiple goals: strengthening next-generation logistics, reducing congestion and emissions, enhancing sustainability, and creating faster, safer, and more adaptable delivery models. It also reflects Abu Dhabi’s readiness to deploy the latest global transport solutions within a safe and reliable system.
