Dubai Municipality has achieved a global milestone by becoming the world’s first entity to be certified for compliance with ISO 53800, the international standard for gender equality and women’s empowerment. The certification was awarded by Global TUV, a leading authority in auditing and compliance, coinciding with the celebration of Emirati Women’s Day on 28 August.
The recognition underscores Dubai’s leadership in fostering inclusive workplaces and reflects the UAE’s commitment to embedding gender balance as a cornerstone of sustainable development. His Excellency Eng. Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita, Director General of Dubai Municipality, said the achievement highlights the country’s dedication to fairness, merit and equal opportunity, aligning with the UAE National Strategy for Empowerment of Emirati Women 2023-2031.
Officials from the Municipality emphasised that the certification not only boosts employee happiness and talent retention but also enhances the quality of services delivered to residents. The recognition builds on the UAE’s global standing in gender balance, where it now ranks seventh worldwide on the UNDP Gender Inequality Index, a major leap from its 49th position in 2015.
