Under the directives of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union (GWU), President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation, and also known as 'The Mother of the Nation', the UAE has unveiled the official theme for Emirati Women’s Day 2025 as 'Hand in Hand, We Celebrate 50 Years'.
Celebrated annually on 28 August, this year’s theme is especially significant as it marks five decades since the founding of the GWU in 1975. The GWU was established under Her Highness Sheikha Fatima’s leadership to champion the rights and development of women across the UAE.
The theme reflects a national spirit of unity, community partnership, and collective progress, aligned with UAE's Year of Community. It also reaffirms the UAE’s longstanding belief that empowering women is fundamental to empowering society, with Emirati women continuing to play vital roles across government, business, science, education, and family life.
Since its inception, the GWU has helped build a comprehensive framework for women’s advancement in the UAE, guided by the values of identity, solidarity, and inclusive national development.
As the UAE celebrates Emirati Women’s Day 2025, the occasion will honour the achievements of Emirati women while looking forward to the next phase of empowerment, hand in hand with their communities and the nation.
