Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced that 70 percent of the Umm Suqeim Street Improvement Project has been completed, marking a significant milestone in one of the city’s largest infrastructure developments.

The upgraded corridor, which runs from Al Khail Road to Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road, is part of a broader master plan to enhance the 16km Umm Suqeim-Al Qudra corridor, one of the RTA’s key east-west traffic corridors, strategically designed to integrate with Dubai’s north-south road network.

The current phase of the project spans 4.6km, with new upgrades including a revamped Umm Suqeim-Al Barsha South intersection near Kings’ School Al Barsha, construction of an 800-metre tunnel with four lanes in each direction along Umm Suqeim Street, and a signalised surface-level intersection to improve traffic flow.

Once completed, this corridor will significantly reduce congestion and boost connectivity across four major highways in Dubai including Sheikh Zayed Road, Al Khail Road, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road and Emirates Road. The corridor will also accommodate up to 16,000 vehicles per hour in both directions. Travel time between Al Khail Road and Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road is expected to be reduced by 61 per cent, from under ten minutes to just under four minutes.

Speaking during a site tour, His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA, said the project supports Dubai’s continued urban expansion and serves more than one million residents in key neighbourhoods like Al Barsha South, Dubai Hills, Arjan, and Dubai Science Park.
