The UAE has officially announced Sunday, 30 March, as the first day of Eid Al-Fitr, following the sighting of the Shawwal crescent moon on Saturday evening.
The Eid holidays will extend from Sunday, 30 March to Tuesday, 1 April, creating a four-day weekend for UAE residents when combined with the regular weekend. For details about the holidays for federal employees and private sector employees, see Connector's story here and here.
Eid Al-Fitr officially concludes the Holy Month of Ramadan, marking the beginning of Shawwal, the tenth Islamic month. Eid Al-Fitr represents one of Islam's major celebrations and traditionally involves family gatherings, feasts and charitable acts. According to the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department in Dubai, Eid Al-Fitr prayers will take place at 6.30am in all the mosques across the emirate.
