Horizon International School, located in Jumeirah, Umm Suqeim, announces its attainment of the esteemed National Association for Able Children in Education (NACE) accreditation award. This recognition reflects the school's steadfast commitment to educational excellence, following an intensive 18-month review and action planning process. As one of only two schools in the UAE to receive this honour, Horizon International School showcases its dedication to personalised and challenging learning for all students.

The NACE Challenge Award, bestowed by the National Association for Able Children in Education, acknowledges schools for their exceptional provision for high-ability learners. Part of the NACE Challenge Development Programme, this award underscores the school's dedication to fostering a stimulating learning environment for all students. Schools earning this accolade demonstrate a comprehensive approach to supporting and challenging students to reach their fullest potential.

Commenting on this achievement, Alexander Tate, Director of Enrichment and Enhancement, Horizon International School said, "Guiding our school through the NACE accreditation process has significantly enhanced our educational approach, leading to improved student outcomes and raised academic standards. This journey has empowered our students by giving them leadership opportunities and a voice in their education. We've expanded enrichment activities, offering broader learning experiences and fostering collaboration and healthy competition among peers. The emphasis on 'challenge for all' has ensured inclusive and effective teaching practices, benefiting every student and creating a unified, high-achieving school culture".

Horizon International School recently received praise in its NACE Challenge Award assessment report, highlighting various strengths. The accreditation process involved a thorough evaluation of the school's programs and teaching methods. Assessors commended the level of challenge seen in classrooms and the enrichments offered outside the regular curriculum. Students' positive attitudes towards learning and confidence impressed assessors, reflecting the school's effective approach to creating a supportive learning environment.

Several areas were addressed during accreditation to meet NACE's standards, including identifying and challenging high-ability learners, ensuring teachers understand and plan for challenges, and raising expectations for all students. Horizon International School utilised NACE's resources and engaged in professional development to enhance provision for high-ability students.

They also conducted a case study on underachievement among these students and collaborated with the University of Birmingham, Dubai, on an Action Research Project. This research emphasised strong leadership and combining academic and personal development to improve educational outcomes. These findings have guided teacher training and shaped the school's approach to student success.

Darren Gale, Principal of Horizon International School, commented on this achievement: "This accreditation is not just an award; it’s a reflection of our relentless pursuit of excellence and our belief in the boundless potential of our students. We are proud to be recognised for our efforts to challenge and support every learner, ensuring they not only meet but exceed their expectations".

The NACE accreditation not only recognises the school’s commitment to challenging and personalised holistic education but also sets a benchmark for other institutions in the region.
