RTA To Construct 762 Bus Shelters In Dubai By 2025

RTA

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced the construction of 762 public bus shelters in strategic locations throughout Dubai. These shelters are expected to be finished by 2025 and will feature a stylish design that blends practicality with visual appeal. The structures will incorporate architectural elements that contribute to Dubai's sophisticated character, reflecting the city's commitment to safe and stable urban living.

RTA is considering the use of 3D printing technology in the construction of some shelters on a trial base in collaboration with a company. Commenting on this, His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General, Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA, said, “The construction of these shelters is part of RTA’s ongoing efforts to improve the public transport services, provide an integrated and reliable infrastructure and bring happiness to all residents of Dubai. The design of the new shelters is compatible with the Dubai Code for People of Determination, including wheelchair-accessible areas."

Furthermore, this project supports 'My Community... A Place for Everyone' initiative launched by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Chairman of the Executive Council aimed to make Dubai a friendly city for People of Determination.

Four Models Of Shelters

The RTA has organised the bus shelters into four tiers based on the number of daily users at each stop. Main Stops cater to over 750 passengers daily, with a part of the shelter being air-conditioned.

Secondary Stops accommodate 250 to 750 passengers, Primary Stops serve 100 to 250 passengers, and Pick-up/Drop-off Stations are used by up to 100 passengers daily.

All shelters, regardless of category, will have a shaded outdoor area and spaces for advertisements. Additionally, each shelter will be equipped with information screens providing details on bus routes, schedules, pick-up times, and other relevant passenger services.
