His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has officially launched the world's largest concentrated solar park project in Dubai, marking another milestone in Dubai's commitment to clean energy. This significant project is part of the fourth phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, with a total investment of Dhs 15.78 billion ($4.3 billion).
Spanning an expansive 44sq km, the solar park boasts an impressive capacity of 950 megawatts (MW). Designed to power approximately 320,000 households, the fourth phase of the solar park is expected to make a substantial impact by reducing carbon emissions by about 1.6 million tonnes annually.
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed emphasised that this initiative aligns with the UAE's ambitious goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 and supports the objectives of the Cop28 climate conference currently taking place in Dubai.
In the fourth phase, the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park boasts cutting-edge features, including the world's tallest solar tower standing at over 263m and the largest thermal energy storage capacity of 5,907 megawatt-hours.
This groundbreaking project incorporates three hybrid technologies: 600MW from a parabolic basin complex, 100MW from the towering solar structure, and an additional 250MW from photovoltaic (PV) solar panels.
Spearheaded by the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), the solar park is a key component of both the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net-Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050. These initiatives aim to achieve 100% energy production from clean sources by the middle of the century.
