RTA Installs Sustainable LED Lights On Roads In Dubai

RTA

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has upgraded 2,000 lighting units with energy-saving LED lights, in both directions along Airport Road and Al Ittihad Road.

Spanning 19.5km across 16 lanes, the LED lights are a sustainable alternative that conserve energy and contribute towards a more green economy.

The project took around six months to complete, and will reduce energy consumption by 55% when compared to the previous lighting units. The LED lights also have a lifespan of 60,000 hours, an increase from 22,000 hours in the previous units, reducing the frequency of replacing them.

The LED lights also reduce heat emissions, and increase nighttime visibility for drivers.

Maitha bin Adai, CEO of Traffic and Roads Agency at RTA said, "The lighting upgrading project on Airport and Al Ittihad Roads took nearly 6 months. Works included re-engineering the operating system of the lighting units to integrate sustainable, environmentally friendly and highly efficient lights. Undertaking the project underscores RTA’s commitment to adopting the latest innovative means for optimising the use of assets, extending their lifetime and saving the power consumption across the lighting network."
