A rare celestial event is set to take place on Thursday, 31 August, where people can catch a glimpse of the blue moon.
A blue moon is the second full moon in the month, and occurs when the moon is closest to the Earth.
Unlike a supermoon, which can be seen two to three times a year, when it is at a point closest to the Earth, a blue moon occurs, on average, once every decade but can sometimes be seen only once in 20 years.
The next sighting of the blue moon is predicted to take place 14 years from now, in 2037.
People looking to view the moon in Dubai, can visit the Al Thuraya Astronomy Centre in Mushrif Park on Thursday, 31 August from 7pm to 9pm. Prices are set at Dhs 40 for children aged 13 and below, and Dhs 60 for adults. Registration is available on the Al Thuraya Astronomy Centre website.
