Dubai Ranks High On Congestion And Traffic Index

Dubai has received high rankings on the traffic flow index in a 2022 report compiled by TomTom, a company specialising in monitoring congestion and traffic around the world. 

Dubai ranked higher than major cities around the globe including Los Angeles in the United States of America, Montreal in Canada, Sydney in Australia, and Berlin in Germany, for the average time taken to travel a distance of 10km in the central business area. Dubai recorded a journey time of 12 minutes for 10km, when compared to 21 minutes for 10km in other major cities. The highest performing city was Almere in the Netherlands at 8 minutes for 10km.

Dubai also received high rankings for time taken to commute in urban areas for 10km, recording a time of 9 minutes per 10km in the urban area, with an average speed of 59km/h. The highest-ranked city was Greensboro in the United States of America, at 7 minutes and 40 seconds per 10km, with an average speed of 74km/h.

The report analysed 390 cities in 56 countries, covering over 543 billion kilometres of road networks.

His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General, Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority said, "These accomplishments stem from the wise leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and the follow-up of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council, and His Highness Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, First Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, to elevate the infrastructure of Dubai's road and transportation network, under the ultimate goal of making Dubai the best city for living on earth."
