WAM

UAE officials updated the public on the uses of face masks based on a government media briefing.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic that has been spreading since March, the government have made the use of face masks in public mandatory, in order to curb the spread of the virus.

Officials have mentioned that wearing a face mask for long periods of time does not decrease the amount of oxygen in the body nor does it retain carbon dioxide, if the mask is worn in the right way.

It is also noted that people that suffer from chronic lung diseases should wear a mask as it protects them from infections that may attack their respiratory systems.

Although people suffering from acute shortness from breath should not wear a face mask as it can be injurious to their health.

It has been recommended to practice sports in a well ventilated and open area, especially those that opt for high-intensity workouts.

Pregnant women should exercise caution while wearing masks and should take all the necessary precautions and follow their doctor's guidance. They should also maintain a healthy diet and take their supplements and vitamins as well as continue their physical exercise.
