The UAE reported 930 coronavirus cases and 5 deaths on Thursday–its highest figure in four months.
In a special media briefing, Farida Al Hosani, spokesperson for UAE’s health sector, said that 62 percent of the new infections have been reported among males.
12 percent of the infected had arrived in the country during the past two weeks with a negative COVID-19 result while leaving their respective countries.
The UAE government urged the public to continue avoiding social gatherings as 88 percent of the new cases resulted from attending weddings, funerals, work and other social occasions.
Farida Al Hosani said that another reason for the widespread transmission of the disease is that people are not wearing masks while attending these social gatherings.
Shopping malls need to be stricter in following the prescribed COVID-protocol and safety guidelines, and should not go beyond the prescribed capacity.
Thursday’s figures bring the total number of infections in the country to 76,911, and raise the death toll to 398.
The total number of recoveries currently stand at 67,954 with a total of 586 people having recovered in the last 24 hours.
