Students returning to schools next week will not be required to undergo a COVID-19 test according to a statement released by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA).
"As we look forward to many students returning to schools next week, we would like to confirm that COVID-19 PCR testing is not mandatory for students,” the statement read.
The test will be mandatory for teachers who will be screened for the coronavirus by the end of this week.
A recent circular issued to schools states that all staff members will have to be tested prior to reopening with the exception of those who have been tested recently and hold a copy of the results.
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, said he is looking forward to a “safe start” to the new school year as he reviewed preparations for the new academic year with ministers on Tuesday.
Various precautionary measures have been set up to ensure the safety of both teachers and students.
A million students are expected to resume classes in the UAE on Sunday, 30 August.
