Renewals Of Expired Residence Visas And Emirates ID Cards Recommences

A decision announced in April this year where visas and entry permits that expired after 1 March were extended until 31 December 2020, has been amended.

The Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship (ICA) will now recommence the renewal applications of expired residence visas and Emirates ID cards.

The update gives a grace period of 3 months from the date of expiry to renew expired residence visas and Emirates ID cards that expired after 1 March for citizens and residents in the UAE. For citizens outside the UAE and residents outside the UAE for less than six months, a grace period of one month is in place from the date they return to the UAE/

Residents who are out of the country and their visa expired after 1 March or who have been out for the maximum 6 month period will be given a grace period to return determined by the ICA and dependents from when flights between the UAE and the specific country can resume.

The amendments are in effect now and a schedule for accepting renewal applications has been announced.

  • For renewal of visas and Emirates ID that expired in March and April this year, renewal requests are accepted now.
  • For renewal of visas and Emirates ID that expired in May this year, renewal requests will be accepted from 11 August 2020.
  • For renewal of visas and Emirates ID that expired in June this year and between 1 July and 11 July 2020 renewal requests will be accepted from 10 September 2020.
  • For renewal of visas and Emirates ID that expire after 11 July there are no restrictions for accepting applications and can be done straight away.
