Despite movement restrictions and social distancing, six UAE based athletes smashed the Guinness World Records for the most chest to ground burpees in a 24 hour period.
The minimum required to break the record was 6,000, however the team of six athletes based in Abu Dhabi, more than doubled that and achieved 12,502 burpees in 24 hours.
The team of six athletes included Eva Clarke, a super-fit trainer and mum of three who has set 15 Guinness World Records before and still holds 12 of them, along with Ivan Camponogara, Daniel Gill, Tereza Petrovicova, Brandon Chin Loy and Anna Erdi.
On achieving another Guinness World Record, Eva Clarke said, "I managed to set 15 Guinness World Records titles in the past, three of them have already been broken. It is delightful to see other women pushing their limits in the same category. The thing that I try to preach and practice each day is to encourage women to explore their potential."
Clarke's other world records includes the fastest marathon by a female, while carrying a backpack weighing 40lb which was set in London in 2015.
A burpee, also known as a squat thrust, is a full body exercise used with four basic movements. The exercise sequence is:
- From a standing position go down into a squat position with hands on the floor
- Stretch the legs out to form the plank position and keep your arms stretched out
- Bring your feet back to the squat position
- Return to a standing position
