The UAE Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (TRA) has lifted restrictions on a number of video and voice calling apps in light of the current situation, where travel is restricted like never before and more people are working from home.

These apps primarily include Microsoft's Skype for Business and Google Hang Out and will work via fixed line internet networks. Other apps which are also accessible include Microsoft Teams, video calling app Zoom, and educational service Blackboard. No time limit has been set and it has been announced that these applications are available until further notice.

A statement from the regulator said, “In the context of the current situation, and as part of the TRA’s efforts to support distance learning and working from home, the TRA – in coordination with the UAE telecom operators – announces the availability of a group of applications, exceptionally until further notice.”
